Okay, this orange chicken is the bomb! Like for reals. Not only does this taste lip smackin’ eye popping good, but it is incredibly EASY to make, and taste just like takeout! Don’t let that long list of ingredients fool you. The actual cooking is a breeze, and took me about 30 minutes from start to finish to make.

My love for orange chicken goes way back. Something about the sweet orangey flavor gets to my soul. I thought I would kick it up a notch by adding some heat… don’t fret, it isn’t too spicy at all. I didn’t want everyone to freak out, so I kept it on the mild side. It’s the perfect combination of sweet’N’spicy.

I got inspired to make this after reading the back of Trader Joe’s frozen orange chicken package. Anyone else know what I’m talking about? That stuff is heavenly. My recipe is completely different, but still just as delicious! I absolutely LOVE Trader Joe’s, and wish they would come to Canada.

After my big move from Atlanta to Toronto, I am finally getting settled in, and I’m enjoying getting to know Toronto all over again. Everything has changed, and it feels like I am in a new city. So far this move has been the best decision I have made for my family.

Happy Canada Day to my Canadian peeps, and Happy Independence Day to my American peeps! Drink lots of beer and eat Spicy Orange Sesame Chicken….because its goooooooood.

Ingredients
  1. 4 boneless skinless chicken breast (1.5lbs), cut into bite size chunks
  2. 1 tsp. onion powder
  3. 1 tsp. ginger powder
  4. 1 tsp. garlic powder
  5. 1 tsp. salt
  6. 1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
  7. 3 eggs, beaten
  8. 3/4 cup corn starch
  9. 1/3 cup peanut oil (you can use canola oil, or vegetable oil)
For the sauce
  1. 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  2. 1/2 tsp. orange zest
  3. 3 tsp. rice vinegar
  4. 2 tablespoons chicken broth
  5. 1/2 tsp. sesame oil
  6. 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  7. 1 tablespoon ketchup
  8. 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  9. 1 tablespoon honey
  10. 2 tsp. sriracha chili sauce
  11. 1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  12. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  13. 1/2 tsp. freshly minced ginger
  14. 1/4 tsp. salt
  15. 1 tsp. corn starch
Garnish
  1. toasted sesame seeds
  2. green onions/scallions, sliced
Instructions
  1. Season the chicken breast with onion powder, ginger powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Set aside.
  2. Make the sauce. In a medium sized bowl, add all ingredients for the sauce together and mix well. Set aside.
  3. In another medium sized bowl add the eggs, and lightly beat. In a separate medium bowl add the corn starch.
  4. In small batches, dip the chicken into the egg, and then dip into the corn starch.
  5. Heat a large wok or frying pan over medium to high heat, and add the peanut oil. Once the oil has become hot, add the chicken and cook until golden brown. About 5-10 minutes.
  6. Once the chicken is cooked through, off the heat and transfer chicken to a plate. Wipe out the pan and add the sauce to the pan. Heat the sauce over low-medium heat until you start to see it lightly bubble. Add the chicken back to the pan, and toss or stir to coat the chicken with the sauce. Immediately turn off the heat.
  7. Top with sesame seeds, and garnish with green onions.
